Fur & Feathered Goth Fairy for Smudgy Antics!

Hello Friends!
Before I tell you about today's project I want to remind you all that voting starts today over on my DominoART blog for our spooktacular 15 Days of Half-O-Ween event sponsored by Lost Coast Designs!  Dash on over and check out the scary creations then vote for your favourite top 3, the winners will be announced on May 30 :0)

Now for today's project which is my Smeared Ink DT inspiration piece for week 2 of Smudgy Antics current "use Fur and/or Feathers" challenge!  I could not resist using both and I'm really thrilled with my fur and feathered Goth Fairy...isn't she beautiful ;0)

The Goth Fairy is one of Smeared Ink's beauties and she comes with as set of 9 Goth Fairies!
I also used the 3 butterflies from their new set called Specimen Jar and created a collage for my background!  Click on the photos to enlarge them.

I created the collage and included the goth fairy in Photoshop and printed the collage onto Core'dinations white cardstock.  Then printed out just the fairy onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and fussy cut her out.  I used Copic markers to colour both fairies but just blocked in colour on the background fairy and coloured the main fairy in detail with shading, added white highlights with a white gelly roll pen and touch of bling by colouring her choker cross with a metallic gold Letraset marker.  I trimmed the background panel and distressed the edges with Tim's Paper Distresser tool.  Then applied Peeled Paint Distress Ink to the entire panel, then Tea Dye DI concentrated around the edges and corners and finished off with Fired Brick DI.

I then adhered my 'fur' to the fairy's bodice with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.  The fur is actually from a little white pompom and I shaved off bits of it with my scissors to create the fluffy fur.  While that was dried I embossed a sheet of red cardstock with an eBosser Regency embossing folder, distressed the edges and applied Black Soot Distress Ink to emphasize the embossed design and the roughened edges.  Next came the fairy's feather wings which I adhered to the back of the cut out fairy with more adhesive and also added Kool Tak transparent dimensional foam tape at the same time.  While the wings dried I prepared the mats.

I adhered the butterfly background to the embossed red cardstock and used my Perfect Layers #1 tool by Perfect Paper Crafting to cut the 1/4" border with a knife similar to an Xacto on a self-healing cutting mat.  I then adhered everything to a sheet of grey/white decorative cardstock (Making Memories) and used the same tool to cut the 3/8" border.  Everything was then adhered to textured black cardstock (Colorbok) and I again used the same tool to cut the 1/8" border.  Aren't Perfect Layers tools awesome!  I cut all those borders perfectly with just one tool that looks just like a ruler without the need for measuring and they're so easy to use!   For a tutorial video and more info please visit my PPC Ambassador page and use my special coupon code Leigh5% to get 5% off your entire purchase if you decide you can't live without these tools either ;0)

I completed my art piece by adhering the fairy to the butterfly background and added the 3 black facet cut jewels to the lower left side.  Here's a closer look at all the details.

Thank you for visiting with me today and before you dash off to enter the Smudgy Antics challenge I'd like to remind you that the current challenge over on my DominoART blog is a fan favourite...Any Game Goes and you can use any theme too so I hope you'll come and play with us!

Vintage Shabby Chic Mom's Day Cards for Blockheads Paper Arts!

Howzit Everyone!

This month at Blockheads Paper Arts the design team is creating projects with the Shabby Chic style and today I'm sharing two vintage shabby chic Mother's Day cards.  They're similar to each other but have slight differences too.  I put the pink polka dot ribbon on opposite sides, used amber self adhesive gems on one and pearls on the other and the sentiment on the left card says "Happy Mother's Day" and the other says "For You".

All the stamps used are exclusive to Blockheads.  The tulips are from the Flowers full sheet, the sentiments are from Daisy Verses and on the backgrounds I used an architectural flourish image from the Geco-Roman set.

Stamp the large tulips image onto Neenah Solar White cardstock twice with Rich Cocoa Memento Ink and colour with Copic markers.  I used RV10, E13, 15, W1 and the colourless Blender to add texturing to the leaves.  Trim the two panels, distress the edges with Tim's Tonic Paper Distresser tool and apply Tea Dye Distress Ink to age.  Adhere the panels to a sheet of dusty pink cardstock with craft glue and use Perfect Layers tool #2 to cut the mats with a 1/2 " border and distress the edges as well.

These Perfect Layers tools by Perfect Paper Crafting truly are amazing.  They eliminate messy eyeballing or precise border measuring completely!  There's 3 tools available and they look like transparent rulers.  Each tool has FOUR border sizes on them and what makes them work is the ingenious built in 'catch lip' that allows you to butt the tool up against the adhered flower panel and simply cut the perfect border on all 4 sides with an Xacto knife and a cutting mat.  The cutting edge of the tools have a metal edge so they're protected from the knife too!  Check out my ambassador page at PPC for more info and video tutorials and use my special coupon code Leigh5% to get a 5% discount off your entire order!  I seriously can not live without these tools now I have them ;0)

Make two folded cards from white cardstock and stamp the architectural flourish image three times down one side of each card front with Perfect Plumeria VersaMagic ink and apply Pink Petunia VersaMagic to the card with a foam ink applicator tool.  To give the cards the variation I mentioned I stamped opposite sides and adhered the pink polka dot ribbon with double-sided tape down the part that didn't get stamped.  Loosely apply Tea Dye Distress Ink to the Greco-Roman flourish and stamp it onto some scrap pieces of white cardstock for a faded and worn look then stamp the sentiments with Perfect Plumeria VersaMagic ink and die cut out the labels with a Spellbinders or Quikcutz die.  Tatter the edges slightly with the Paper Distresser tool and apply Tea Dye Distress Ink to age.  Adhere the labels to the card fronts with craft glue and embellish one with amber gems and the other with pearls.  Complete the cards by decorating the inside with a single stamped tulip.

Thanks for visiting with me today and if you'd like to see more shabby chic-ness then stop by the Blockheads Blog to see what my fellow team mates are creating too.
